Start with your first transfer

Save your arrival airport, terminal, accommodation address and check-in instructions offline. Compare the airport train, an official taxi rank and an app-booked ride. Use the marked pickup area and check the vehicle details.

Have your hotel’s Chinese name and address ready to show the driver. A screenshot works even when your connection does not.

Book a train with your passport

China Railway’s 12306 service accepts valid passports for real-name ticketing. Enter your details carefully and carry the original document used for the booking. Follow the station’s instructions for passport checks and staffed gates.

Check the station name, departure time and train number, and leave time for security and boarding. Different stations in one city can be far apart.

Use the official 12306 English site, or a booking platform whose fees and cancellation conditions you understand. Tickets, seat types and release times depend on the service.

Around the city

Metro: use the official station map and check the final service time. Payment options differ by city. If you use a mobile transit code, make sure you activate the correct city and eligible payment method.

Taxi or DiDi: confirm the pickup pin and destination, and use the designated rank or app pickup point. Match the plate before entering.

On foot: allow time to explore, but check distances. A small gap on a map can be a long walk through a large station or city block.

A few common questions

Can I use a passport copy to board a train?

Carry the original valid identity document used to book. If it is lost or replaced, ask railway staff about the required procedure before travel.
